During the Summer of 2010 Elephant Family, the only charity solely dedicated to ensuring the survival of the Asian elephant, teamed up with Britain’s leading art and design luminaries to launch London’s biggest ever public art event – The Elephant Parade (www.elephantparadelondon.org).
The London parade featured 250 life-size baby elephants, all hand-painted by an assortment of established and emerging talent from the art and design world. Artists included Marc Quinn, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alice Temperley, Lulu Guinness, Julien Macdonald, Issa, John Rocha, Alberta Ferretti, Jonathan Yeo, Jack Vettriano, Nina Campbell and Nicky Haslam.
The elephants, destined to become highly collectible works of art, graced a host of London landmarks, creating a dazzling and unique urban savannah. The display was followed by an auction by Henry Wyndham of Sotheby’s at a glittering event on the 30th of June which raised over GBP 1 million, which will go to benefit more than 15 UK conservation charities working in Asia.
Quintessentially ‘adopted’ four elephants of their own which were found in Soho Square, London and at Quintessentially Soho at The House of St Barnabas. This was another fantastic, innovative and high profile event that Quintessentially was involved with and reinforced our commitment to make a real difference to the world in which we live.
