Team Up uses tuition, delivered by inspirational role models, to enable pupils from low-income backgrounds to meaningfully increase their academic attainment, in order to improve the choices open to them.

Team Up help over 1,000 underachieving children each year, doubling their expected progress and improving their future prospects. They offers a free tuition programme with inspirational volunteer tutors, trained and supported by qualified teachers.

Team Up’s long term aim is to ensure that their pupils do not become NEET (not in education, employment or training) once they leave school. This is important as 26% of those eligible for Free School Meals, (the pupils Team Up tutors) are NEET at age 16-24 compared to 12% of the population as a whole. Education is the key to social mobility, and research suggests that regular small-group tuition is one of the most effective ways of accelerating a child’s academic progress.

The Firefly Project will help Team Up to improve their impact with their pupils and work alongside the growing number of pupils they can reach.
